In this video I briefly talk about some of the risks in our suckler herds around weanling pneumonia.

Importantly how do you know,  if its an issue on farm.

Measuring performance, looking at direct costs and factoring in losses from lung damage on performance ‘the hidden costs’.

Some things I didn’t cover was the risks of dehorning and castration at weaning time around increasing stress.

Remember stress opens the door for a lot of these viruses and bacteria that cause pneumonia.


Also the 2 M’s mastitis and magnesium. weaning time is a risk for suckler cow at pasture for grass tetany or hypomagnesia and mastitis.

Increased vigilance in the cow at this time is essential.
